DOGs vs. CATs
This is a grudge match between the purest "Diehard Optical Groper" and technologist "Computer Assisted Telescope" user. A 15-object observing list comprising easy, tough and obscure clusters, nebulae and galaxies is being prepared by Jerry Spevak. Jerry is an experienced observer and astronomy writer whose articles and photographs have appeared in Astronomy and Deep Sky magazines.
Three fearless competitors (one with a Dob, one with a GoTo Mount, and one with a GPS mount) will be given this list (after dark) and asked to set up their equipment and find all fifteen objects. The person who finds the greatest number of objects within the two hour time limit will be declared the winner.
The grudge match will be held in the field west of the main tent on Saturday after the evening program. Complete "Grudge Match" rules will be posted here as soon as they become available.
