Phil Harrington

Phil Harrington (Touring the Universe Through Binoculars, Nights of Future Past: A Look at the Amateur's Telescope in the 20th Century), is an ardent amateur astronomer. Bitten by the "astronomical bug" while watching the total lunar eclipse of April 1968, Phil has spent countless hours touring the universe through telescopes and binoculars. Phil is most familiar to amateur astronomers for his books "Touring the Universe Through Binoculars", "Star Ware", and "Astronomy For All Ages".

Phil's presentation on Friday is based on his book "Touring the Universe Through Binoculars". After describing what to look for in a good pair of astronomical binoculars and how to use them, Phil will lead us on a tour of the binocular night sky. His book lists over 1,100 deep-sky objects that are visible through binoculars, with the finest 400+ described in detail.

Nights of Future Past: A Look at the Amateur's Telescope in the 20th Century, is a retrospective talk about how the amateur's telescope has changed since the turn of the century and what telescopes might be like in the next century.
