STARFEST 2000
Keynote Speakers

Dr. Doug Welch (Cosmology 2000: Time for a Brief History) is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. His interest in observational astronomy began as a teenage member of the AAVSO and he is still an active participant in amateur astronomical activities.

In his presentation Doug will talk about how the face of cosmology was completely changed during the 20th century by both theoretical and observational astronomers. He will review the milestones that led to our current understanding of the universe, review recent important discoveries made both from the ground and space and their surprising implications, and speculate about what future work holds in store.
