STARFEST 1999 Speakers
Phil Keebler (Studying Eclipsing Binary Variable Stars with a Homebuilt CCD Camera) is a variable star observer who became interested in astronomy in high school. Several years ago he built a cookbook 245 CCD camera and started to observe eclipsing binaries. A CCD camera can record and store data for later analysis, and detect changes in brightness in variable stars that would remain undetected visually.
Phil will review eclipsing binary variable stars, and describe the methods he uses to study light curves for these stars in order to determine the time of minimum. The equipment, software, and where to send the results (AAVSO) will be covered.
