Phil McCausland (Arrival and Recovery of the Tagish Lake Meteorite)
a final-year doctoral student in the Department of Geophysics
(Paleomagnetism) at the University of Western Ontario, has a deep interest
in the evolution of the Earth and the Solar System. In the spring of 2000
he participated in the recovery of a meteorite that fell on Lake Tagish in
northwestern B.C.
His presentation will document the circumstances of the Tagish Lake
meteorite's arrival as a brilliant Yukon fireball in January 2000, the
efforts directed at its recovery, from the slowly thawing surface of Tagish
Lake, and its importance as a possibly unique carrier of information from
the early Solar System.
