STARFEST 1999 Keynote Speakers
Dr. Richard Herd (Meteorites) is the Curator of National Collections at the Geological Survey of Canada, in Ottawa, and a full member of MIAC, the Meteorite Impact and Advisory Committee to the Canadian Space Agency, and its Chair of Public Awareness. Since 1992 he has been conducting research on meteorites and their origins. He was involved in the recovery and acquisition of the St-Robert meteorite in 1994, the acquisition of the private Schmidt meteorite collection for Canada in 1996, and the study of more recent falls and finds, such as that near Kitchener, Ontario on July 12, 1998.
In this talk, Dr. Herd will speak about meteorites, their probable origins, and what they can tell us. He will discuss Canadian meteorite recovery and research, and the meteorite work of both the Geological Survey of Canada and MIAC.
