by Otmar Eigler Picture a dark, glorious, sky, at about 35 degrees latitude; every night of the week potentially crisp and clear. The StarHill Inn may just be that dream come true. Here's an Inn that caters to astronomers, (just think of it), 7,000 feet in elevation in a dark site, lights turned out at night, what a great idea! We are hoping to organize a Canadian contingent to take over the Inn on mass. We can accomodate approximately 20 to 30 people in our group. There are group cabins with cooking facilities (or restaurants for the lazy!!!) Some telescopes are provided for rent, at very reasonable rates. Early plans include a full week of observing and photography, with approximately 3 days return travel, by train. Travel arrangements have not been finalized, but train seems a likely choice, with bus connections. Some of these decisions will be based on the amount of committed interest. One reason for the choice of train is unlimited baggage accommodations in a baggage car, which travels with the coach, (oh boy!!! I get to take all of my toys!!! :-). Airline arrangements can be supplied for those wishing less travel time but you'd miss all the fun of having a hoot on the train, with all your friends! We're hoping the total cost (excluding food) for this 10 day trip, will be approximately $1000. Not bad for a poor man's alternative. Tentative date is around New Moon, Nov. 4th, 1994. It might be a bit nippy at night, but has the best chance for clear skies. So, let's hear from you soon for this great trip, as bookings must be made a year in advance. Further information will be mailed by October 1993, to those interested. Remember, this is a limited group excursion, and a FIRST COME FIRST PAY rule will apply. Hope to hear from you soon and remember, TIME FLIES WHEN YOU'RE HAVING FUN IN ASTRONOMY!! |
