A Vision of Our Future
by Andreas Gada

In 1992, the NYAA was incorporated. This was done primarily to provide public and trade liability protection for our members. It was also done to position the club for future growth. To direct this growth, a "vision" for the club was prepared. What we needed was a clear statement reflecting what we are and what we wanted to achieve, so that five or ten years from now we can look back and say "We did it! We built that observatory! We have a CCD image library in place with dial up access!" So here it is, our vision. It may not be perfect. It may not be to everyone's liking, but here it is for better or worse.

VISION

To be Canada's premiere astronomy club, in all key activities undertaken by the club, as judged by our peers in the amateur astronomical community.

GOALS

  • Organize and conduct high quality activities that satisfy the astronomical needs of our members and enhance their enjoyment of the hobby
  • Conduct club business in a professional and courteous manner, yet maintain an informal atmosphere
  • Establish and maintain a research quality observing facility.
  • Establish and maintain a research quality observing facility at oak heights
  • Establish and maintain a facility that can be used by the members for all aspects of telescope making
  • Establish and maintain a facility that can be used by the members for image processing, both traditional silver halide and electronic
  • Maintain a world class astronomy conference
  • Establish and maintain an effective communication mechanism that encourages information sharing among the members

Now for the real challenge, turning the vision into reality, by building on what exists in the club today. If you would like more information about what we're planning, or if you have any suggestions or comments, please feel free to contact any of the club members listed in the table on page 5.
