Debra Tigner ("SuperNova Hunting", Main Tent, Friday 10:00 a.m.) is a member of the Puckett Supernova Search Team based in Georgia. Her hunts have garnered her one discovery, many stories of near misses, and even some surprises. She is also the Vice-President of the Ottawa Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.
Debra will show how astronomers are searching for supernovae, describe the history, and explain the differences between the various types of supernovae and their unique roles in the cosmos. She will also demonstrate how raw images are processed and how to distinguish a supernova from a hot pixel, cosmic ray hit, asteroid or other imaging artifact.
