Bob Anderson, "Building a Robotic Observatory in the City," Small Tent, Friday 1:30 p.m., Bob has been imaging for over six years from dark sites throughout Ontario, and currently runs his fully robotic observatory from his home in the suburbs of Toronto.

Astrophotographers are like boaters, they seem to be bitten with the need for bigger and bigger rigs as time goes. Soon one reaches a point where an observatory seems the next logical step to save time on setup, tuning, and to be ready at a moment's notice to catch those special clear nights for photon captures.

This presentation outlines the trials and tribulations that city dweller, Bob Anderson, went through to design and build a 10 foot, fully automated fiberglass dome based on the design of the Kitt Peak observatory. From material choices to motorization and automation, Bob takes the viewer through each step, the costs and the challenges as well as some interesting anecdotes if he was to do it all over again.
