REMOTE OBSERVING SESSIONS

During Starfest several remote observing sessions will be held using telescopes in Ontario, New Mexico and Australia, weather permitting.

The North York Astronomical Association will be connecting to the Lorenz Observatory at Oak Heights on Friday at 10:00 p.m. to run an imaging session.

Bob Denny, from ACP will be running several remote observing sessions day and night during the conference. If there is something you have been wanting to image with leading edge equipment under pristine skies now is your chance. To get the most out of these sessions you will need to plan ahead and prepare a list of the objects that you would like to image.

DC-3 Dreams, SP will be doing night remote observing (weather permitting) using the Calvin College Robotic Observatory in Rehoboth, NM (just outside Gallup). The Calvin Robotic Observatory has a 16" DFM research grade telescope with an SBIG ST-10 imager and filter wheel. Access to the observatory will be via web browser to DC-3 Dreams' ACP Observatory Control Software running at the observatory.

Bob will accept requests for images. Observing will begin at 8:00 p.m. local time (dusk at the observatory) and continue through 2:00 a.m. or later if needed. While observing, we'll be downloading images already acquired. All images should be downloaded by mid-morning local time following the night's observing. Depending on your requests, images will be for astrophotography and/or science, and we'll make them available via USB snap-drive. Anyone wanting to process the images and return to ACP's booth with the results is welcome!

DC-3 Dreams, SP will be doing daytime remote observing (weather permitting) using the Muhlenberg Observatory in Coonabarabaran, Australia. This observatory is just a couple of miles down the mountain from the Australian National Observatory at Siding Spring. It has a Celestron C-14 on a Software Bisque Paramount, and an Apogee AP-6 (1024x1024, thinned back-illuminated CCD) with a filter wheel and automated focusing system. Access to the observatory will be via web browser to DC-3 Dreams' ACP Observatory Control Software running at the observatory.

We will accept requests for images. Observing will begin at 8:00 a.m. local time (midnight at the observatory) and continue through observatory dawn (1:00 p.m. local time), when we'll acquire automated dawn sky-flats. While observing, we will be downloading images already acquired. All images should be downloaded by mid-afternoon local time. Depending on your requests, images will be for astrophotography and/or science, and we'll make them available via USB snap-drive. Anyone wanting to process the images and return to our booth with the results is welcome!
