"There are no bathrooms, running water or mobile service there. Bring lots of water, batteries and so on with you as it is a real camping trip.
To see Zodiacal light from the dust that permeates our solar system for those that have not seen it before or to see the dust clouds of the Milky way, is truly awe inspiring.
It is a 3.5 hour drive more or less depending on where you live in the GTA and what time you leave. I would suggest that if you go up, plan to stay the night and once your eyes have become accustomed to seeing the astonishing clear sky, you'll want to stay at least till morning. Driving out in the middle of the night is not something I would suggest."

  • From Toronto, take Hwy 401 to Napenee and head north on Highway 41.
  • There is an excellent truck stop on the left as you go under Hwy 401.

  • Follow Hwy 41 north till you come to Kaladar which is on the intersection of Hwy 7 and 41.
  • Continue on Hwy 41 north and you will pass Bon Echo Provincial Park on the right.

  • Keep going for another 14km keeping an eye out for a small sign on the right had side that gives the address of 19213.
  • Turn right onto this old logging road and head up it crossing over a bridge, till you come to a fork in the road.
  • You need to take the right hand fork which rises quickly up onto the airport access. The fork takes you up on to the airport strip and then on to the asphalt runway. Getting a trailer up that fork should be okay but it can get a bit rough. Just take it slow.
  • The runway is about another 100 feet ahead of you, but the area is very flat and capable of landing planes, even today.
  • Do not park on the run way as it can still be used in an emergency.
  • The normal location we park at is about 100 feet down the runway and off to the right side, (halfway to the bush line). The ground is sandy and at this time of the year, no mosquitoes or other airborne vermin to worry about.
