KIDFEST '97
This special program is aimed at giving children who attend STARFEST an opportunity to learn about "what's up there". The program will be held on Saturday in the children's tent. This year's event will revolve around the solar system. The following activities are planned:
- PLANETS, NAMES AND ORBITS -- Ages 3,4,5 **
- A talk about the planet names, their relative position and orbits in the solar system. After the talk the children will be involved in a practical demonstration of the location and orbits of the planets in the solar system.
- PLANETS AND THEIR MOONS -- Ages 6,7,8 **
- This presentation continues our exploration of the solar system by probing each planet in greater detail. The children will be involved in a dialog about the planets, their composition and their moons.
- PLANETS AND MYTHOLOGY -- Ages 9 & up *
- No journey through the solar system would be complete without understanding the stories and mythology behind each planet. These stories are part of our rich astronomical heritage that helps us understand the evolution of astronomy and how our understanding of the universe has changed over time.
Kidfest is conducted by Ken Davy, and Jenny Krestow, Chris Burns, and Mike Gladders of the Toronto Sidewalk Astronomers.
