The NYAA has a new telescope! It is a 6" f/8 one-wave reflecting telescope made by Peter Ceravolo for the optical quality survey. The other three telescopes in the series, you may recall, were labelled at StarFest as diamond, heart, and spade. This left the fourth 'scope as the club telescope. NYAA Gets The Shaft Mega thanks to Paul Whyte, who took on and successfully completed machining of the shaft for the Bog 'scope. Actually, we should have thanked Paul two issues ago, but due to the finite speed of light, this information is only now just getting out! Amazing Graze (Under Pressure) Despite a last minute ephemeris revision, the graze of Al Baldah (pi Sgr) was observed on October 3 by Andreas Gada, Walter MacDonald, Tony Ward, and Paul Whyte. The occultation lasted approximately 3.5 minutes (roughly from 22:18 to 22:22 EDT). See the "Gazing" article by Paul elsewhere in this issue. |
