The images of M51 and M1 on the right half of the cover were taken by Jack Newton from Sooke, B.C. using a 25" Newtonian telescope. Three black and white images of each subject were captured through red, green, and blue filters using the ST6 CCD camera. Each image was enhanced using the Hidden Image program to maximize the detail. Three processed images were then combined using PhotoStyler to produce a true color image.

The images of M51 and M1 on the left half of the cover were taken by Bob Sandness from King City, Ontario using a C14. The images were captured on Kodak Ektar 1000 using a 10 minute exposure. The negatives were scanned onto photo CD. The digitized image was then processed using PhotoStyler to enhance image contrast.
