Wayne Hally

Wayne Hally (Shooting Stars and Prospects for the 1998 Leonids) is extremely active in the North American amateur meteor community. He is the Meteor Research Coordinator for the New Jersey Astronomical Association, the Editor of "Meteor Trails", the Journal of the American Meteor Society, and on the Operations Staff for both the AMS, and the North American Meteor Network. In his spare time, he is an activist against light pollution, and is the Chairman of the NJAA Light Pollution Committee.

Meteor observing is one of the few fields in astronomy where the amateur can make valuable scientific contributions, with minimal equipment required. In this presentation, Wayne will talk primarily about how to observe meteors visually, but will touch briefly on other areas that an interested observer can branch into - such as photographing meteors by camera, by video, etc.. He will also discuss some of the exciting prospects in meteor science this year - such as the possibility of a major Leonid meteor outburst in November.
