KIDFEST 1999
This special program is aimed at giving children who attend Starfest an opportunity to learn about "what's up there". The program will be held on Saturday in the small tent. At this year's Kidfest we will explore some of the constellations visible during Starfest.
- CONSTELLATIONS & STORIES (Ages 3 - 6)*
- In this session Susan Engels will explore the history and stories behind the constellations of Sagittarius, Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, Cassiopeia, Pegasus, and Cygnus. This will be followed by a craft session where children will be asked to draw constellations to help them understand how the connecting stars form each constellation.
- CONSTELLATIONS ABOVE (Ages 7-9)*
- Ken Davy will teach the children about the constellations that are visible during Starfest, including their names and how to find them using the brighter stars as guide posts. Crafts and projects after the talk will review the concepts learned.
- CONSTELLATIONS IN MOTION (Ages 10 & up)**
- Although we can't see it, the stars in the constellations are slowly moving. In this session, Ken Davy will explain why the stars are in motion, where they are heading and how over thousands of years their movement affects the appearance of the constellation. There will be fun crafts after the talk.
