SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
ATM Blue Box Challenge

The Starfest ATM Blue Box Challenge is a friendly competition to promote innovation in telescope making. You can participate in the competition by designing and constructing a fully functional 4" to 6" reflecting telescope for under $50 CDN (excluding the cost of optics) using materials that would typically be found in the Blue Box recycling program. The telescopes will be judged based on design ingenuity, mechanical stability and craftsmanship. On Saturday evening, an 8" mirror cell and a 1-1/4" focuser donated by DAR Astro and O'Neil Photo and Optical will be awarded to the winning entrant.

Telescopes entered in the competition will be on display in the area west of the main tent starting 12:00 PM on Friday August 17. In addition as part of the Friday evening program, each entrant will be asked to give a short presentation (5 - 10 minutes) on the design and construction of their telescope.
