SPEAKERS

Jerry Spevak, "Sketching the Deep", Small Tent, Friday 3:30 p.m., has been a keen amateur astronomer for some 30 years. He specializes in the visual observation of deep sky objects, including variable stars, double stars, clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. Over the years his work has been seen in various publications, including Deep Sky and Astronomy magazines. Recently his analysis of the resolution limit of telescopes was included in The Observatory (a British astronomy journal) and in the book Observing and Measuring Visual Double Stars (Bob Argyle ed, Springer 2004).

Sketching what you see in the eyepiece can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. In this presentation Jerry will describe why he sketches, his observing site, what telescopes and equipment he uses, what objects to draw and how to make a drawing. These drawings will be compared with those of some of the more notable astronomers of the past.
